De onderzoeksspecialisatie biedt de student de mogelijkheid om twee volle jaren te spenderen aan training en specialisatie om een onafhankelijk en creatief wetenschapper te worden. De MSc-studenten worden lid van een van de onderzoeksgroepen in het Leids Instituut voor Scheikunde (LIC). De student ontwikkelt zijn/haar individuele MSc programma samen met de mentor. De meerderheid van de studenten die deze specialisatie hebben gekozen, vervolgen hun carrière met een PhD-plek.

Entry requirements
- A BSc degree in Chemistry or a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in chemistry from any Dutch or internationally recognised university.
- Proof of sufficient proficiency in English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230, evidenced by appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate
- The admission process may include an interview by the Admissions Committee.
- Applicants with a higher professional education (hbo) degree in a related field of science, or with a diploma in Higher Laboratory Education (hlo) may be considered. The Admission Committee will judge the equivalence of the previous training to the Dutch Bachelor of Science in Biology which may result in additional coursework. The range of optional courses in the MSc programme may be limited by the requirement to adapt the programme to the present knowledge of the candidate.
