Wat betekent het als je iemand ergens moreel verantwoordelijk voor houdt; onder welke omstandigeheden ben je daartoe gerechtigd? Zijn er universele morele normen of veranderen deze naar gelang hun culturele context? Wat is de aard van democratie en hoe kunnen we dit politieke systeem rechtvaardigen – als dat al mogelijk is?
In de masterspecialisatie Praktische filosofie volg je colleges die al deze kwesties behandelen. Bijzonder aan deze specialisatie is dat de actuele filosofische discussie niet los gevoerd wordt van de historische.

- What does it mean to hold someone morally responsible for an action, and under what conditions are we justified in doing so?
- Are there universal moral norms, or do moral norms vary with their particular cultural contexts?
- What is the nature of democracy, and how (if at all) can this political system be justified?
The Leiden MA Programme in Philosophy offers courses in each of the areas mentioned.
A characteristic feature of the programme is that the discussion of current philosophical issues is integrated with a discussion of the history of philosophy.
