Meer dan 15% van de kinderen in de schoolleeftijd kampt met leerproblemen; zij ondervinden ernstige moeilijkheden bij één of meer basisvaardigheden of hebben tekorten in algemene leervoorwaarden.
Deskundigen die deze kinderen behandelen, moeten kennis hebben van de manier waarop kinderen leren, waar het mis kan gaan en welke interventies evidence-based zijn.

Entry requirements

You can apply for admission if you possess the following qualifications:

  • You possess the knowledge and skills required to successfully complete a Bachelor’s programme in Education and Child Studies;
  • You are in possession of a university bachelor’s degree or you can demonstrate that you fulfil the requirements of such a degree;
  • You have a good command of the language in which the specialisation is taught. If the language of instruction is English, you must meet at least one of the following requirements in an English language test:
    • TOEFL: minimum 600 (hard copy)/250 (computer)/100 (internet)
    • IELTS: minimum level 7
      This requirement does not apply for students who have completed their education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or students who are in possession of an International Baccalaureate.
  • International candidates who wish to be admitted to the Clinical Child and Adolescent Studies specialisation must have proof of their proficiency in Dutch: listening B2; reading B2; spoken interaction B2; spoken production B2; writing B2.
    Students with a BSc in Education and Child Studies from Leiden University do not have to apply for admission.

Pre-master’s

Students in possession of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an institute of higher professional education must pass an entrance examination to be admitted to the pre-master’s programme in Education and Child Studies (in Dutch). After passing the entrance examination they can follow the pre-master’s programme and subsequently the master’s programme. All courses in the pre-master’s and master’s programme take place during the day and require a full-time study commitment.
The deadline for applying for the entrance examination is 16 March 2012.
