De researchmaster Latin American Studies is een multidisciplinaire tweejarige opleiding waarin zowel de verschillen als de overeenkomsten in historisch, cultureel en sociaal-politieke opzichten tussen Latijns-Amerika en het Caraïbische gebied worden behandeld, met een sterke focus op de hedendaagse realiteit van deze regio’s. Binnen de opleiding heb je de mogelijkheid om je te specialiseren in Latijns-Amerika, Indo-Amerika of het Caraïbisch gebied. Je doet hierbij ervaring in de regio op, aangezien je in de bijzondere gelegenheid bent om onderzoek te doen in een Latijns Amerikaans of Caraibisch land. In je scriptiefase kun je je nog verder specialiseren in een discipline zoals moderne geschiedenis (met inbegrip van antropologie, sociologie en politicologie), letterkunde en archeologie.
Entry requirements
- a BA degree (from a recognised academic institution) in Latin American Studies or Caribbean Studies or equivalent, with good results
- proven substantive affinity with knowledge of a sub-region within the programme, as shown by a Bachelor’s thesis in that area or an equivalent written paper discussing the relevant literature and research.
- knowledge of methods and techniques concerning social science, historical, or literary research.
- a good command of Spanish (CEFR: listening: B2; reading: C1; oral interaction: B1; oral production: B1-B2; writing: B1)
- Proof of sufficient proficiency in English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230/88-90, evidenced by an appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate, or
- a Dutch VWO diploma
Applicants with a higher professional education (HBO) degree are not eligible for admission.
