De Universiteit Leiden is een uitstekende plaats om het oude Midden-Oosten dat het spijkerschrift (uitgevonden voor 3000 v.Chr.) gebruikte te bestuderen. De Leidse studies van Mesopotamië en Anatolië worden internationaal erkend, door bijvoorbeeld projecten als de Altbabylonische Briefe in Umschrift und Übersetzung series, die bestaan uit een verzameling brieven uit de oud-Babylonische tijden.
Je hebt toegang tot de befaamde onderzoekers en onderzoeksprojecten en de mogelijkheid om onderzoeksprogramma’s aan diverse topuniversiteiten buiten Nederland te volgen, inclusief Leuven, Cambridge, Münster en Heidelberg, waarmee regelmatig uitwisselingen plaatsvinden.
