De specialisatie History, Art and Culture (HAC) is bedoeld voor studenten die geïnteresseerd zijn in de geesteswetenschappelijke benadering van een of meerdere landen of regio’s in premodern, modern of hedendaags Azië. Je kan Azië bestuderen in het licht van de geschiedenis, literatuur, kunst(geschiedenis), media en cultuur, godsdienstwetenschap, filosofie of filologie.
De Leidse specialisatie History, Art and Culture is breed opgezet en wordt verzorgd door experts met kennis over de gehele regio: zowel Oost Azië, Zuidoost Azië, Zuid Azië als Centraal Azië.
The programme’s modular structure with elective courses in each of the two semesters and an individually supervised thesis allows students a considerable degree of freedom and individual specialisation by country, region, discipline, or field. Within the HAC specialisation, knowledge of an Asian language is not required, but students have the option of taking an intensive modern language course at beginner’s level in Japanese, Indonesian, Chinese, Korean or Hindi.
