In onze eenjarige masteropleiding Hebrew and Aramaic Languages and Culture bestudeer je niet alleen klassiek Hebreeuws en de diverse Aramese talen in hun 3000-jaar oude geschiedenis, maar heb je ook de mogelijkheid cursussen te volgen in de modern Hebreeuwse taal en literatuur en de huidige Israëlische maatschappij. Ook is het mogelijk je te verdiepen in verschillende Aramese talen en culturen, zoals Syrisch, Targumisch Aramees en Rijksaramees. Het departement Hebreeuws en Aramees van Universiteit Leiden is het enige departement ter wereld dat beide talen aanbiedt.
Entry requirements
- BA degree or its equivalent in Hebrew and Aramaic Studies, Middle Eastern Studies (with Hebrew), Theology (with a specialisation in Old Testament), Jewish Studies (with Hebrew), or a similar discipline.
- Good reading and translation skills of either Biblical or Modern Hebrew or Aramaic
- Proof of sufficient proficiency in English: IELTS test level of at least 6.5 or TOEFL score of at least 570/230/88-90, evidenced by an appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate, or
- A Dutch VWO-diploma
Students who have a BA in Hebrew and Aramaic Languages and Cultures or Ancient Cultures of the Mediterranean World from Leiden University do not have to apply for admission.
Applicants with a higher professional education (HBO) degree are not eligible for admission.
