De MA-opleiding in French Language and Linguistics biedt je verdiepingsvakken in een breed scala van taalkundige onderwerpen in theoretische en toegepaste taalkunde, waaronder taalverwerving, syntaxis, en semantiek. Behalve dat je de Franse taal veelvuldig kunt toepassen op een academisch niveau – aangezien alle colleges, essays, en presentaties in het Frans zijn – bieden we taalcolleges voor specifieke disciplines, zoals economisch en juridisch Frans. We behandelen vragen als: hoe beïnvloeden taal en cultuur elkaar? Wat is de eigenlijke functie van taal? Je kunt je opleiding inrichten naar je eigen behoefte en interesse.
Programme
The one-year MA specialisation in French Language and Linguistics offers you specialized courses in a wide array of topics.
You build on the linguistic research methods and skills that you have acquired during the BA. Theoretical aspects of language acquisition are checked against reality in our language acquisition course, in which you will carry out experiments with second language learners of French. In addition, you can take language courses for special purposes focusing on economic and legal French.
All courses build on actual linguistic research carried out at the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL), one of the largest linguistics institutes in the Netherlands, which gives you the benefit of the relevant and up to date expertise that is available to you.
You have the freedom to combine a number of courses from our specialization with courses from the Leiden programme in another Roman language, or from one of the eighty other different languages which Leiden offers.
Alternatively, if you are interested in pursuing a career in secondary education, you are invited to select courses from both French Linguistics with French Literature and Culture. We encourage MA thesis projects that are specifically designed for prospective teachers in secondary schools.
You will conclude the programme by writing your thesis at the end of the second semester, for which you will be supervised by a member of our small but dedicated staff of active researchers.
