De specialisatie Film and Photographic Studies is een unieke opleiding, gericht op een uitdagende academische verdieping op het gebied van media die lens based zijn, namelijk fotografie, film en video.
Het curriculum is een combinatie van geschiedenis en theorie van film en fotografie, binnen het bredere kader van visuele cultuur en andere media. Daarbij zal aan deze drie media aandacht worden besteed zowel op basis van het discours over hun specifieke aard als wel over hun onderlinge relatie.
Studenten die deze master heb gevolgd zullen zich kunnen profileren als bijvoorbeeld film- en fotografiehistoricus, conservator, criticus, manager van een foto-agentschap of tentoonstellingsmaker.
Entry requirements
- A degree in art history, cultural studies, visual anthropology, media (film, video, etc.) studies or a related academic discipline is required in order to be considered for the programme.
- Aspiring students are expected to have insight into one or more media, to have some personal experience with photography, film or video and to be able to process information in a scholarly manner.
- The admission board can require an admission test which consists of two assignments: applicants write an essay and assemble a visual account. For students with a degree from an arts academy (BFA or MFA) the admission test is obligatory.
- In individual cases the admission committee can require a pre-master’s programme up to 60 ects.
- A thorough proficiency in English: IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 570/250/88-90 evidenced by an appropriate test.
This requirement does not apply if you have:- completed your education in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand or Australia, or
- an International Baccalaureate, or
- a Dutch VWO diploma
