Deze specialisatie is bedoeld voor studenten met een erkende bacheloropleiding in natuurkunde of sterrenkunde. De te behalen graad garandeert een grondige ervaring in de voorhoede van natuurkundig onderzoek en een praktische training van communicatieve- en computervaardigheden om te functioneren in de industrie, maatschappij en het onderzoek.
Cosmology is positioned at the interface between Theoretical Physics and Observational Astronomy. The Leiden Institute of Physics offers this specialisation in collaboration with the also internationally well known Leiden Observatory. Similar to the Theoretical Physics specialisation, in-depth knowledge is required of undergraduate courses with theoretical and mathematical emphasis: quantum physics, electrodynamics, statistical physics, and complex analysis. Also prerequisite is the Leiden bachelor’s course on Physics of Elementary Particles, or a clear equivalent. The bachelor’s course Relativistic Electrodynamics is strongly advised.
