Deze tweejarige specialisatie Chinese Studies combineert vakinhoudelijk onderwijs met een intensieve en gevorderde taaltraining. Ervaren docenten op het gebied van Chinees als vreemde taal en internationaal erkende experts op gebieden als politieke wetenschap, literatuur en religie van China zullen je onderwijzen.
In deze specialisatie zul je het Mandarijn (en afhankelijk van je keuze ook klassiek Chinees) uitstekend leren beheersen. Ook zul je een brede kennis van China opdoen, evenals inzichten in de interne en externe dynamiek van het land en een begin maken met het contextualisering van China binnen Azië. Dit gebeurt niet in de laatste plaats door het jaar dat je verblijft aan een prominente universiteit in China.
Als student heb je toegang tot de uitgebreide collectie in de wereldwijd geroemde Leidse sinologische bibliotheek: een van de grootste en meest diverse collecties in Europa en een belangrijke informatiebron voor wetenschappers in de hele wereld.
Career
As a graduate Sinologist you will be employable in a wide range of career areas. Graduates frequently find employment in policy-making occupations—within government ministries, for example. You will also find your skills sought after within the world of commerce. Alumni can be found working within management positions in NGOs, multinationals and SMEs in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and elsewhere in Asia.
You may also find employment with news organisations—as journalist or correspondent—or work within public relations, as a travel guide, interpreter or translator, although many positions require additional courses after your graduation.
