Waardoor worden ziektes veroorzaakt? Welke invloed hebben bepaalde risicofactoren op hart- en vaatziekten? Wat doet het lichaam om virusinfecties te bestrijden? Welke moleculaire en fysiologische mechanismen treden in werking bij het ontstaan of bestrijden van kanker? Welke manieren bestaan er om genetische afwijkingen te diagnosticeren en te analyseren en hoe kunnen we deze methoden verbeteren? Is stamceltherapie echt de toekomst? Hoe kunnen we biomedische kennis het best vertalen naar een effectieve behandeling van patiënten?
Dit zijn slechts een paar vragen die betrekking hebben op de biomedische wetenschap. En om deze te kunnen beantwoorden, verdiep je je in de masteropleiding Biomedical Sciences in alle aspecten van de menselijke ziekte en gezondheid.

Besides the common programme, which teaches you the basic knowledge you need about research in Biomedical Sciences, your programme is further defined by one of the specialisations:

The department offers a fifth specialisation, Biomedical Sciences Health, that is only available to Leiden medical students who are sufficiently motivated and talented to follow both master’s programmes in parallel.
