In de MSc Biomedical Sciences bouw je aan een stevige theoretische ondergrond in de biomedische wetenschappen en doe je algemene academische vaardigheden op in het doen van multidisciplinair onderzoek. Je wordt opgeleid tot zelfstandig onderzoeker, voor een loopbaan in de wetenschap. Met een master Biomedical Sciences kun je besluiten je PhD te behalen of te gaan werken in industrieel of institutioneel onderzoek.

De specialisatie Biomedical Sciences Eduation richt zich op studenten die docent biologie willen worden. Na afronding van deze specialisatie heb je naast je masterdiploma de eerstegraads lesbevoegdheid.
Het lerarenopleiding-deel van de specialisatie wordt in het Nederlands gegeven.

Career

This specialisation is aimed at students who wish to find employment as biology teachers, or possibly, at a later stage, natural sciences teachers in secondary school education. Following the Master’s examination, graduates can obtain an upper secondary teaching qualification recognised by Dutch law.

Irrespective of the track chosen, graduates of all specialisations are well prepared for a career in scientific biomedical research.
Graduates often find employment in the following sectors of the job market:

  • Universities and academic medical centres;
  • Commercial companies; e.g. pharmaceutical industry;
  • Non-profit organisations;
  • Government or policy-making;
  • Education.

“Ik vind de medische wereld fascinerend maar een onderzoekscarrière te beperkt. In mijn werk als projectmanager coördineer ik medische vertalingen over ieder mogelijk onderwerp. De doelgroep staat centraal want je wilt dat de informatie begrijpelijk is voor de gebruiker. Een patiënt heeft nu eenmaal niets aan medisch jargon, terwijl een arts dit juist het liefst ziet.
Naast mijn werk als projectmanager werk ik soms als freelancer en schrijf dan medische teksten als symposiumverslagen.
Mijn advies aan toekomstige masterstudenten: doe vooral wat je leuk vindt en verbreed je horizon tijdens je studie. Er is bij Biomedische Wetenschappen meer mogelijk dan je in eerste instantie denkt.”
