In de specialisatie Art of the Contemporary World and World Art Studies houd je je bezig met de vraag welke uitdagingen kunstgeschiedenis je in de huidige tijd biedt. Je krijgt hier inzicht in door ontwikkelingen in de kunst te bestuderen in de brede context van de visuele cultuur, vanuit sociale en politieke ontwikkelingen, ontwikkelingen in de natuurwetenschappen en globalisering.
Maar dit gebeurt ook door nieuwe invalshoeken die je de veelzijdigheid van kunst leren begrijpen. In deze specialisatie maak je kennis met al deze onderwerpen en onderzoek je de rijkdom van de moderne en hedendaagse kunst en de plek die zij in de wereld inneemt.
Speciale aandachtspunten zijn:

- Kunsttheorie en esthetica
Covering modern and contemporary art—such as photography, new media art, installation art, sci-art, etc., and their many crossovers—you will look at how art reflects change in today’s society, study the blurring borders between art, science and popular culture, the advancing embrace of (digital) technology, and the manifold processes of globalisation. We address art in its communicative agency. The focus is on intermedialisation and interculturalisation, and on the theory and methods of present-day art history. A further aim is to promote collaboration with artists and art venues.
