Deze masterspecialisatie behandelt de archeologie van beschavingen langs de Nijl in de breedste zin van het woord en biedt een uniek overzicht van de ontwikkeling van samenlevingen in Egypte bezien vanuit archeologische blik. Gespecialiseerde seminars zorgen dat de student bekend wordt met relaties tussen materiële cultuur en samenlevingen in verschillende periodes: van prehistorie, via de tijd van de farao’s tot aan de Grieks-Romeinse periodes. Om dit langetermijn perspectief te competeren wordt een keuzevak in Koptisch Egypte aangeboden.
This master programme deals with the archaeology of the civilisations along the Nile in its broadest sense and provides a unique long-term overview of the development of societies in Egypt from an archaeological perspective. Specialised seminars provide a familiarisation with relations between material culture and society in different time periods: from Prehistory, through the Pharaonic era to the Greco-Roman periods. The thesis allows for specialisation into a specific topic selected by the student.
In the course of the programme, guest speakers from within and without Leiden University will be invited.
Many staff members allied to the programme have ongoing fieldwork in Egypt and your thesis might tie in with those research projects. For this and other research in Egypt by the participants of the MA programme the Dutch Institute in Cairo (NVIC) provides excellent facilities.
